Police ID Man Killed In Atlantic City's Latest Shooting

An Atlantic City man was shot and killed on Saturday, Jan. 20, in another incident marking a deadly start to 2024 in the city, authorities said.

City police responded to a shooting report at 119 North Virginia Avenue just before 7:30 p.m., the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced on Sunday, Jan. 21. 

Officers found 32-year-old Christian Hunter with several gunshot wounds and unresponsive on the sidewalk.

Hunter was rushed to AtlantiCare Medical Center, City Division, where he was pronounced dead. The South Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to figure out his official cause of death.

This is the fifth homicide in just the first month of the year in Atlantic City. According to Mayor Marty Small Sr., there were seven homicides each in 2023 and 2022.

Nazir Cintron, 22, of Atlantic City, and 50-year-old Richard Vincent O'Brien III were killed in separate stabbings on New Year's Day morning. Police have arrested two men in their killings.

Two 16-year-old boys have been charged in the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy on Atlantic Avenue just before 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. Kevin Gayle Jr., 37, of Marmora, was shot and killed on Monroe Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7.

No arrests have been made in the killings of Hunter or Gayle Jr. The major crimes unit for the county prosecutor’s office and the Atlantic City Police Department Violent Crimes Unit are investigating both cases.
